Origin of the Pebble Table

The dining table is a gathering place where families gather to share meals, and stories but it’s also a base for everyday activities like working, reading and playing games. I designed a table that encourages the gathering of family and friends for meals but also accommodates all the other aspects of life that can occur in the same space. I wanted the table to be soft and welcoming but also practical for storing books, laptops, games, placemats and unfinished puzzles. The simple addition of a shelf not only adds structural integrity, but it also adds easy access to everyday items.

I made the table out of solid timber because I wanted to celebrate the beauty of the organic material, carving it into smooth ovals emphasised the beauty of the grain and replicated the process of erosion as the ocean gradually shapes pebbles over prolonged periods of time.  I shaped the table tops and hand carved all the legs myself, giving them a personalised touch that makes each one unique and special, much like the pebbles found in nature.
